We care about design in all it’s presentations because design speaks of a commitment to quality and attention to detail, history and the latest trends.

For us, why design matters is a self evident truth, but the fact is that many organizations come from a different background and work with a different set of tools that allows for great misconceptions about what design is and why it matters.

 

Design is an addition to a product or service rather than part of its core.

Clients sometimes tell us that if they have to chose, function and message come above design. And the problem with this line of thought is that it frames the question of design and an either or situation, rather than something that is engrained into the production process a priori.

Great design does not come on top of or instead of a great message or great functionality, it’s an integral part of both.

For design to be good, it needs to call attention to itself.

Some people feel they get they money’s worth on design when it’s blatantly obvious, it has shining lights, bright colors and everything moves. This idea couldn’t be further from the truth; great design is demure and subtle, it goes unnoticed, it enhances functionality and message without being noticed except for trained eyes.

Design adds to a product or service.

Design is in fact the most ruthless of editors. One of the key principles of design is that anything that doesn’t serve a purpose gets eliminated, and thus processes, experiences and goal completions are enhanced and brought to their full potential.
